"This animated feature made me laugh with its wit, gasp during its action, and reflect in its main character’s internal development. It’s definitely worth a watch and even a re-watch..." AsianWeek (asianweek.com) "If you were holding out guarded hope for the anime incarnation of Highlander, there's good news. Script writer David Abramowitz and Ninja Scroll director Yoshiaki Kawajiri turn out an entirely satisfying action movie. Nothing to complain about...The product that a fan may have hoped for has been produced." Scott Green (aintitcool.com) "..this is a remake done right; it reinvents the characters and concepts of the original without being just a copy." amazon.com
After four films and two television series spanning a period of 20 years, the legendary Highlander returns for the first time as an animated feature-length epic. Anime director Yoshiaki Kawajiri brings his unique visual bravura to the immortal Highlander franchise, placing the MacLeod katana blade in the hands of a Japanese master.
In revenge, patience is a virtue. And after a millennium, Colin MacLeod doesn't care about virtue.
The lone warrior Colin travels through the ages with the wise-cracking ghost Amergan searching for the immortal despot Marcus Octavius, who killed his lover on the Celtic plains centuries ago. On his quest, he discovers Mew York in ruins, with one dominant monolith fortress towering over all. Colin can save the survivors, but his sword only hungers for the blood of one man. Despite many lifetimes of training, Colin has failed to vanquish Marcus on the great battlefields of history. Can he finish what he started and stop Marcus? Will Colin lead the people to freedom or become consumed by hate? There can be only one.
