From the coast of Syria across the Iranian Steppe through the Zagros Mountains and finally into Media, Alexander battled and hunted his fabled arch-nemesis, Darius III, king and ruler of Persia.
Darius charged battlefields riding a golden chariot fitted with scythe-like knives protruding from its wheels, while wielding a sword of rare and extraordinary opulence.
Though it pre-dates by centuries the ornate styling of French Baroque, the hilt on Darius’ sword possesses the same lavish qualities, qualities the master swordsmiths at Marto have captured flawlessly: polished silver beautifully detailed in sinuous gold overlay and punctuated at key focal points with cerulean-colored gemstones.
Beauty and pageantry, however, aren’t its only purposes. The slightly tapered double-edge blade down-chimed at the edges and channeled from guard to just shy of the tip - favors a cut-and-thrust-style of attack. The sword can kill with as much persuasion as it can charm.
An epic collector’s piece for sword and film buffs the world over, the Darius Sword includes an accompanying scabbard crafted of antiqued, full-grain leather dressed with hand-pounded brass-colored sheath guards.
